And more

They arrived back from Walla Walla at 0600 yesterday and immediately went to bed. I left some taco meat so they could make something to eat when they got up.  The game last night was a heartbreaker.  They lost 6-5 in the 10th inning.  It wasn't over until 11:30.  Needless to say, we did not stay beyond the 6th inning when Nick B was done pitching.  He did really well.  Austyn has 2 awesome hits -a double and a single his first 2 at bats.  Marten got on base a lot (HBP or BB) and kept trying to steal.  He isn't that fast, but I found out today he was doing it to mess with the pitcher's head - and it worked.  We sat next to 2 pitchers from the Corvallis team who were very nice,, one from Tulane and one from UC Irvine.  They are putting these guys up in the dumpiest hotel in town with one bathroom per floor and 5 to a room.  Not much to eat after the games either.  We told them to go to the Haven for breakfast.
Out new guys (so far it's just Brandon and Marten) are really different from our first .  In fact, they mentioned that they never really saw Nick eat. They really like to eat.  They don't like breakfast but they will power down anything else.  We made them baked ziti with pork and sausage and they loved it. There is enough left over to eat tonight and they can bring their friends.  Apparently that is what they do.  Last night they were at someone else's house eating leftovers.  Then they came back here and ate more leftovers.
The guys call Brandon Laser.  It's because of his startling blue eyes or "lady killers" as Marten refers to them.  He says he's 6' but he's more like Dean's height.  He is having a blast this first summer in this league.
Marten and I had a long conversation over my freshly picked raspberries which he loved.  It ranged all over the place from careers to living on the East Coast to his family.  His father was a minor league player with the Phillies. His younger brother is starting at Scranton this fall as a middle infielder.  Marten is by far the tallest in his family.  His mom is 5'4" and his dad 5'11".  His grandfather is from Belgium.  His parents are great cooks and owned a restaurant in Philly - a Nuevo Latin place, but they bought the property next door, someone fell and sued them and they got out of the business.  His mother still does some catering.  They have a 3 year old lab that just had puppies.  The lab knows how to open the refrigerator door and once stole an entire beef tenderloin that his mother had for a catering job.  When we go to Philly in September, he wants us to call him and meet up at the Phillies game.
Today I made chocolate chip cookies which they have been devouring.  I told them to invite any of their friends here tonight for the baked ziti and cookies and if there is anyone who needs a room, they are welcome to stay as we do have an extra bedroom.  This has been so fun,
Got a txt from Nick yesterday that his clothes arrived.  He said he misses us and especially Dean's cooking.  I guess he did eat something.
