We Have a Name for the SitCom! The other night at the ball field the announcer, who is pretty awful, encouraged the kids to come down at the end of the game to the Duggie's Left Out. (Leftie's Dugout). Definitely a good choice for our show's name. The dinner with Jack's parents and Javy's dad was great. We sat around our dining room table and talked for hours. It is clear that they really enjoy their kids and are involved in their lives (but not too much). At a time when it seems the whole world is going to hell in a handbasket, it is so reassuring to be with people like these. Jack got a new cup called a Nutty Buddy. Right. It has an extension that goes back along the perineum. Supposed to be a game changer. We will see. There is an old guy who goes to every game named Gary. The kids call him their biggest fan. He is kind of like Gabby Johnson from Blazing Saddles. You can't understand much of what he ...

Well Qualified Trainer I have been the unofficial/official trainer again as the trainer they hired quit. Tonight, on the 2nd pitch, our catcher caught one in the scrotum. Luckily he was wearing a cup. It took him a while to be able to stand and walk, and I am told it looked quite comical with me at 4'11" escorting off a 6'4" baseball player off the field. After some ice and ibuprofen, I examined him and all was intact. Poor guy. Like Stephen says, everyone in the stands was thinking about his junk. At least this was an injury I am imminently qualified to evaluate and treat. Parents are in town and since the pandemic, very few restaurants are open on Mondays which is their day off. We will host the parents for stuffed burgers. Today at the ball field, we are having a pot luck for the host families, players and their families. I started making chocolate chip cookies at 0700. I made 3 batches and luckily we...

Second Half of the Season I forgot to post a great thing that happened last week. Brandon, one of the guys we had 2 years ago contacted me. He was playing for the visiting team. So we took him out to breakfast and caught up. He just graduated from Pacific University in Forest Grove OR with a 3.95 GPA in Spanish. He is interviewing for a job in Beaverton teaching HS Spanish. So proud of him! He is a great guy. When I got home Monday night, our living room was a sprawl of arms and legs. The guys had the day off and were watching the Home Run Derby wearing tanks and shorts. Really, nothing but long arms and long legs. They were on the road for 3 nights this week. Poor Steven got shelled in his second turn as a starting pitcher. He was doing so well, but these guys had his number and scored 6 runs on him in 4 innings. Javy continues to do well both offensively and defensively. He's the guy you can count on....

On Going Craziness This week we made ribs for the guys. A rack of baby backs has 16 ribs. They each ate an entire rack (or maybe Stephen and Javy didn't eat their whole rack and Jack polished them off.) Surprisingly , they didn't eat the cherry pie made from cherries they had picked. It sure has been nice to have those tall guys pick the cherries so I stay off the ladder! They had a league series against Wenatchee this week (won 1/3) and a nonleague series (won 2/3). Some times they are just flat, and other times they look great. I think they get tired too. The weather has stayed nice - 70s and sunny so no complaints there. Jack hit a triple last night and Javy had an awesome game both offensively and defensively today. Steven pitched 2 innings yesterday and started on Tuesday. He did just OK. Today, he was announcing the game on Facebook for a few innings while the real announcer was actually pitching for the Lefties in ...

July 6 Life in a Sit Com Well, that is what the guys decided being on this team is like. There are so many crazy funny stories. First off, the series in Yakima. They won 2/3 against the top team in the division. They all played well, but Steven rocked it for 5 and 2/3 innings in relief for the win! He is ranked 4th in the league for ERAs. Then they headed to Bellingham. The weather in eastern Washington was still really hot and the bus broke down twice on the trip. They arrived in Bellingham 20 minutes prior to game time. Sadly, they lost all 3 to the Bells. They got a new bus which immediately broke down. They then took a window out of the old bus, replaced it with plywood in which they had cut a hole and put in an old home window air conditioner. It is powered by a generator in the luggage compartment. They have to drive with the luggage door open. They still have the same one armed bus driver, S...
