The season unfolds

The guys have been home since Sunday night and they are really settling in.  They eat dinner after the game, grab a quick breakfast before morning batting practice, and scarf down leftovers at lunch.  Wednesday night, the game was early so we all sat down to dinner together.  Isaac is the sun and the rest of us are lesser planets. He is such a presence.  We asked them if there was anything they wanted to eat.  He immediately asked for Kerry Gold Butter - to put in his coffee.  Rhys was silent.  I asked him if there was anything he wanted and he mumbled "bagels". Definitely a lesser planet.  Isaac is the second of 8 kids who have all been home schooled. His mother must be a saint!  The youngest is 6.   No wonder he is the first to grab food - and lots of it.  He ate 2 double cheeseburgers on Thursday.  Luckily Dean had made lots so there were some for everyone.  Dalton has been in a batting slump which is breaking my ...

Now We Are 3

It has been fun getting to know Dalton.  We are changing his name to Mr. Clean as he does laundry every other day!  His mother even offered to buy us laundry soap as she must know her son well. He has done well defensively, but he has not had much in the way of hitting the last several games.  He is so serious!  When he gets up to bat, he holds his bat straight up and looks to the sky. Like a prayer.  His folks have a travel trailer and are here in PA for a while.  He often goes out to their place for dinner.  They even brought his German Shepard that they are training to be a service dog. Sunday night,  the other 2 guys arrived and the dynamic has changed.  Isaac is out there - super friendly and funny.  He looks like a tall Bradley Cooper.  He is an outfielder/first baseman.  He has hit 2 home runs in 3 games so far.  Unfortunately, he struck out the last bat of the game last night with a chance to tie the score. ...

Top of the First

Back at it again for 2018.  We will be having a total of 3 Lefties - a left handed pitcher and an outfielder/first baseman from Spokane who will be arriving in mid June when school is done and an outfielder from Wenatchee who arrived this week.  He is a quality guy!  He has played for the AppleSox in Wenatchee and lived at home, but this is his first year of living away.  He has been going to Wenatchee Valley Community College, but will be going to Virginia Tech and playing Div I ball next year.  He is a Sociology major, but as all these young men, what he really wants is to play professional baseball.  Since he was the first to arrive, he gets the big bedroom with private bath and TV.  He says he has never had a bedroom this large before.  He will eat anything and was over the moon when Dean made him a breakfast burrito.  I think he likes the chocolate chip cookies too (don't they all?).  He was the star of the first game in Victoria,...
