Extra Innings
So, Rhyse's elbow does not need surgery, but he has to rest it for 3-6 weeks, so his season is done. He went home Tuesday after seeing the orthopedic surgeon. It was bitter sweet to see him leave. I actually got a one armed hug! Hope to see him play in the spring for Central.
Then, Dalton went on the Bellingham road trip. He did well batting in the first game, but then they asked him to relief pitch in the second game. Uh oh! He had pitched in high school, but partially tore his UCL, so switched to outfield Of course, he tore it again. I got him in to see the orthopedic surgeon who suggested an MRI. He will get that done at home in Wenatchee and start rehab prior to going to Virginia to school in mid-August. Hope this is not a career ending injury. Dalton seems to think he will still be able to bat and play outfield. Hope so. He needs this scholarship. This is a huge opportunity for him. Interestingly, there was an article in Friday's WSJ about position players pitching in MLB. I don't think it is such a good idea. I have seen too many injuries to pitchers. Dalton met me in Sequim at Starbucks for coffee before he left. He is such a great guy. I want only the best for him - and the others as well.
We were empty nesters for about 20 hours. Apparently, there are several new guys who need housing. The season is only one more week of which they will be gone 3 days. Nick, Erik and Paul should be arriving today.
