Playing catch up

Way too long since I last posted.  The season is rolling along. Sadly the home crowds have been thin and whether it is the lack of decent summer weather, the lackluster performance of the team or maybe people in Port Angeles have tired of the novelty of college level baseball.  All told, the kids are playing some really good baseball, some not so good,  Jonny is a pretty consistent starter with a rocket of a fast ball.  Mike had his problems, but his last game was stellar.  He came in after the starting pitcher was down 0-5 (walked in a couple of batters).  Mike got out of the inning with no more runs scored and pitched another 4 innings with only one run (sadly a one run homer).  For his last game as a Lefty, it was beautiful and hopefully left him with a good feeling about his summer here.  He went home yesterday.  He goes to school in the Midwest and lives in San Diego, so he rarely sees his parents.  I get that.  If he were my son, I would want him home for part of the summer too.
Nick is a little unhappy with the amount of playing time he is getting.  He was complaining to the other 2 guys one day and they laughed, saying”welcome to pitching world”.
All 3 of them went to the driving range at the golf course last week.  Mike has a good swing and Jonny is a beast. If he can straighten out his drive, he would be a threat.  Nick has never played golf, but I think they all had fun.
My job is to feed them, provide clean sheets and towels and pick them up in the middle of the night when they come home from road trips.  And be their Mom, cheering them on from the sidelines.  Watson’s job is to greet them like they are the greatest thing that ever walked through our door, no matter how well they played.
