The End is Near

Only 5 more games.  Steven pitched last night and lost his focus in the 5th inning.  He expected to pitch 40 innings this summer and has pitched 57.  That's a lot for an 18 year old arm. He is philosophical about it though.  This guy will go far. He was telling me today that his mom was thinking of retiring this year and he told her it wasn't good idea since he (the youngest) was leaving home.  Actually good advice.

Sat around with the guys last night and the topics ranged from the Olympics, sport with the best athletes (basketball), naming a relative's dog, and other sports they are not able to play because of the commitment to baseball. Only Jack has ever skied and quit a few years ago to focus on baseball and avoid other injuries.  Javy was discouraged from playing football in HS since he was on a baseball scholarship even then. A very different life and an all consuming one.

The road trip was not good, lost all 3 games to Wenatchee, 2 by 1 point though.  They had to drive to the game themselves as I guess the bus just isn't going to make any more trips.  Jack drove and was planning on driving back Thursday night after the game.  His mother and I intervened and they had the sense to stay overnight and come home the next morning.  All safe and sound.

Nothing too funny or bizarre except for Gary, their Number 1 fan who comes to all the games and always has a beer in at least one if not 2 hands.  Last night, they had a "beer bat" promotion, so I got a photo of him for the boys.  Maybe they can make a poster of him for their dorm rooms, along with a picture of the bus.
